Dear Parents and Students,
It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the Visual Art program! We are excited to meet new faces each year, as well as greet familiar faces who are returning. Although many of us remember doing something fun with art early in our education, it is often a little bit scary to start a high school art class. Sometimes, people worry that they won't be good enough. Others think that they lack what they would describe as "talent". Their idea is that some people are born with artistic ability, and the rest just....aren't. I am pleased to tell you that this isn't true! ANYONE can learn skills and techniques in art. Besides, there is so much more to art than being able to draw something that resembles a photograph. All around us are examples of artwork created by people who don't necessarily draw realistically! Everything from your phone, the album cover from your favorite musician, and even your favorite pair of shoes was designed by an artist. Why couldn't that be you?
Should you ever find yourself struggling with questions or concerns, please feel welcome to reach out to me personally. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. To my "Art Parents": Thank you for trusting me with your child. Your support is the glue that keeps everything together.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tanya Turner
