Contour line
Directions:
1. Practice drawing a shoe from observation (not from a photograph), using one continuous line. No picking up the pencil until you are finished! 2. Choose your best 3 shoe drawings to trace over with marker. 3. On large drawing paper, use watercolor to create a pattern that helps emphasize the shoes. Many students chose patterns that resemble vintage wallpaper. 4. Cut out the shoe drawings |

Directions for Monochromatic Self-Portrait
1. Take a clear, in-focus photo of yourself. Zoom in close to your face.
2. Upload the photo to the following website: https://www.imgonline.com.ua/eng/posterization.php
a. Set posterization level to 4
b. Check the box to make image black and white
c. Click OK, then download and print the resulting photo
3. Shade the entire back of the photo with graphite pencil.
a. https://thevirtualinstructor.com/transfer-drawing.html
4. Lay the photo graphite-side down on top of your drawing paper. Tape it in place so that it does not shift around.
5. Outline all of the shapes using a mechanical pencil. The pressure of your pencil will transfer the image onto your drawing paper.
6. Be sure to outline every single shape. Draw AROUND each shade of grey. Do not fill anything in. This will create an effect that looks like a paint-by-number.
7. Choose a monochromatic color scheme. This consists of one color plus black and white.
8. Fill in each of the values of your self-portrait, matching the lightness or darkness of the value to its equivalent in color. The white areas should not be left unpainted. Use white, with a tiny bit of the color mixed in. For the black areas, use black plus a tiny bit of the color. This way, your entire painting will one unified color scheme.
